Gideon Putnam Resort

Day 1 – Saratoga Springs

The Gideon Putnam Resort calls you back to classic hospitality. Inside, you will find charm at every turn that hearkens back to when hotel design was an art. The resort is surrounded by the serenity of Saratoga Spa State Park, a National Historic Landmark, and is adjacent to the Roosevelt Baths and Spa.

Day 2 – Tour Saratoga Springs

The Mineral Springs, the Revolutionary War, the homes of the Rich and Famous, the horse races, and the pomp. This morning, take a beautiful tour of the Saratoga Spa State Park, Saratoga Battlefield, historic Mansions, and famous Race Track.

This afternoon – you choose what to do!
Roosevelt Baths and Spa – Experience a naturally-carbonated mineral bath and massage in one of America’s 100 Favorite Spas of 2019! Additional cost and based upon availability.

Automobile Museum –  Opened in 2002 by local auto enthusiasts, the main exhibits continually change, showcasing everything from Antique and Classic Cars to Muscle, Green and Super cars. 

Walk, Talk, and Taste the Water Tour – Get ready to taste these unique natural springs! There are currently 21 public mineral springs and no two springs taste exactly alike: each spring has its own distinct mineral makeup and flavor profile.

Day 3Raquette Lake and Lake Placid

Travel today into the heart of the stunning, pristine Adirondack Mountains. Raquette Lake boasts 99 miles of shoreline, making it the largest natural lake in the Adirondacks. Enjoy a magnificent Raquette Lake lunch cruise surrounded by natural beauty.

Great Camp Sagamore on Raquette Lake is known as the most architecturally sophisticated and influential of the famous Adirondack Camps and was built in 1897 as a wilderness retreat for the Vanderbilt family. It is now a National Historic Landmark and the tour is fascinating.

Mirror Lake Inn

Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa is the ideal Adirondack respite after a day of cruising on Raquette Lake and visiting Great Camp Sagamore! The resort is filled with exposed wooden beams and cozy fireplaces reminiscent of the lodges of yesteryear. Aside from its location and ample amenities, the culinary offerings are absolutely delicious.  

Day 4 – Lake Placid

Lake Placid has been home to two of the Olympic Games and today you will get to see one of them while they are still being used for training.

Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa has been a Lake Placid mainstay since 1883. Their accommodations are outfitted with wooden furniture, vaulted ceilings and expansive windows that offer views of Mirror Lake and the surrounding mountains – the panoramas are stunning.

After breakfast, travel along the scenic Whiteface Memorial Highway to the top of Whiteface Mountain for spectacular views and a visit to the Summit Castle. This isn’t your typical automotive experience. How many other roads do you know that lead you directly to the summit of a mountain, with gorgeous views spanning hundreds of miles of wild land reaching as far as Vermont and Canada?

Next, witness a live ski jumping demonstration and visit the top of the Ski Jump Tower for a panoramic view of the Adirondacks. After lunch at the Base Lodge, head over to the Olympic Skating Arena and Olympic Museum.

Afterwards, for those who like to shop, the town has a beautiful main street with lots of window shopping.

This would also be a great time for a hotel spa treatment (additional cost and based on availability).

Day 5 – Lake Placid to 1000 Islands

Rock Island Lighthouse cruise and tour.  The historic lighthouse opened to the public in 2013. Tour the light house and light-keeper’s home and if you wish, climb to the lantern room. The island sits in the St. Lawrence shipping channel, so there is an opportunity to see an ocean freighter going by.

Check into your hotel.

Afterwards, enjoy a wine-tasting at Coyote Moon Vineyards, the most award-winning winery in the region. Coyote Moon wines are made from cold-hardy varietals and are sure to please every palate.

Dinner tonight will be a traditional Thousand Island Shore Dinner cooked the same way it was over 100 years ago. Along with this, the story and making of the original Thousand Islands dressing. This is at the winery, so you have the opportunity to buy a bottle and enjoy it with dinner! It’s a three-course dinner utilizing local products and fresh fish.

1000 Islands Harbor Hotel

Enjoy the luxury accommodations of the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel. With an enviable location on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, nestled in the quaint village of Clayton, the hotel provides the ideal vantage point from while to explore the area.

Day 6 – 1000 Islands

Enjoy an intimate boat tour as you travel over 22 miles among many of the 1000 Islands along the St. Lawrence River. Travel up the American Channel of the St. Lawrence Seaway. On board professional guides will share the rich history, legends, and lore of the area as you get close enough to the islands to spot local wildlife.

Boldt Castle

This international tour will include views of magnificent, million-dollar summer homes on both the US and Canadian shorelines, travel under both the American and Canadian spans of the 1000 Island Bridge System, and pass Rock Island Lighthouse State Park.

You will disembark at Heart Island to enjoy a self-guided tour of Boldt Castle and learn the heart-wrenching love story of this famous man, with 360-degrees of breathtaking views.

The Antique Boat Museum on the St. Lawrence River displays the largest collection of antique and classic boats in North America.  Even if “boats” aren’t your thing, it still is interesting to see the evolution of this mode of transportation and the rich and famous who used them.

Day 7 – Depart for home
